Hannah Senesh beamed constant optimism as a writer, activist, and soldier. Her poem “Now,” which she wrote in 1938 at age 17 in her native Hungarian, encapsulates the creative impulse; that moment of bringing out something where there was nothing before. In a life cut short by war, Senesh used her life itself as her canvas.
